• This is a non-selective medium which was formulated by APHA in 1917 as a standaridized medium for the use in the examination of water, wastewater, dairy products and various foods 1
• This medium is specified in current compendia of methods for the microbiological examination of stock cultures

• Nutrient Broth is a general-purpose medium used to subculture organisms for maintenance purposes or to check the purity of subcultures from isolation plates prior to biochemical or serological tests
• Nutrient Broth is formulated according to the recommendations of APHA and AOAC International (AOAC) 2-4
• This medium is used for qualitative procedures
• This medium contains beef extract that provides carbohydrates, vitamins, nitrogen compounds, and salts
• Gelatin peptone provides nutrients in the form of amino acids and peptides
