- General description: The Human VEGF ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit is an in vitro enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay for the quantitative measurement of human VEGF in cell lysate and tissue lysate.

- Biochem/physiol Actions: VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor) is a potent angiogenic cytokine. It stimulates proliferation and migration of endothelial cells. VEGF induces microvascular permeability by enhancing function of vesicular-vacuolar organelle (VVO). VEGF plays a prominent role in both normal and pathological angiogenesis.[1] Substantial evidence suggests that VEGF is involved in the induction of tumor metastasis and intraocular neovascular syndromes.[2][3] Increased expression of VEGF causes retinal angiogenesis, thus, inhibition of VEGF using soluble VEGF-receptor chimeric proteins can be considered as a potential therapy for ischemic retinal disease.[3] Polymorphism in VEGF at C (-634) G is linked with diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes. Altered expression of VEGF is also associated with rheumatoid arthritis, Graves′ disease, psoriasis, cardiovascular disease, and peripheral limb disease.[2]
