Description

  • Differentially identify Mycobacterium spp with their ability to utilize nitrate using Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Nitrate Reagent A For AFB
  • Virtanen found that mycobacteria differ in their ability to reduce nitrate by means of nitrate reductase based on the age of the culture, temperature, enzyme inhibitors, and hydrogen ion concentration1
  • The nitrate reduction procedure is recommended by Kent and Kubica in A Guide for the Level III Laboratory2
  • Mycobacteria, being a slow-growing bacteria, needs a faster detection in the specimen samples for rapid diagnosis and treatment of Tuberculosis
  • Nitrate reduction is the most sensitive test used for detecting the ability of Mycobacteria to reduce nitrate
  • The presence of the enzyme nitrate reductase is an important differential characteristic in identifying different species of Mycobacteria.Ready to Use: Convenience of a prepared reagent.Ease of Differentiation: Positive test is indicated by red color development after addition of reagents; and no color development after addition of zinc dust
  • Negative test is indicated by no color development after addition of reagents and red color development after addition of zinc dust.Rapid Detection: Within 30-60 seconds. The end products of nitrate reduction are many and depend upon the bacterial species
  • The most important product is molecular nitrogen by way of nitrite reduction which is indicated by the presence of a catabolic end product or the absence of nitrate in the medium
  • The development of a red color after the addition of three reagents: hydrochloric acid; sulphanilic acid and N-naphthylethylenediamine indicates that the nitrate has been reduced to nitrite
  • The red color reaction is due to the formation of a diazonium compound
  • When confirming a negative test with zinc dust, the reduction of the diazonium salt by zinc in the presence of acetic acid produces a colored compound, arylhydrazine.Used in conjunction with Nitrate Reagent B for AFB, Part No
  • R21244
  • For use with Nitrate Substrate Broth, Part No
  • R061548.Not all products are available for sale in all territories
