• Cultivate fastidious organisms present in small numbers from clinical specimens with Thermo Scientific™ Remel™ Fastidious Broth
• In 1994 Cartwright et al
• first described the use of Fastidious Broth to enrich specimens that may contain small numbers of fastidious organisms, prior to culture on plated media 1
• Fastidious Broth support the growth of a variety of bacteria e.g., Corynebacterium jeikeium , Haemophilus influenzae , Neisseria gonorrhoea and Streptococcus pneumoniae
• For many organisms this broth reduces the time of incubation and the volume of inoculum required for growth to be detectable
• Fastidious Broth is a liquid medium recommended for cultivation of fastidious organism
• Fastidious Broth contains casein and meat peptones that supply amino acids, peptides and nitrogenous substances essential for growth
• Yeast extract supplies essential B-complex vitamins that stimulate growth of organisms
• Sodium chloride provides essential electrolytes which maintain osmotic equilibrium
• Ready- to-use: Convenience of prepared media
• Easy-to-use: Inoculate the broth directly with specimen immediately once it is received in the laboratory and incubate at 35-37º C for up to 7 days
• Dextrose is a carbohydrate source that provides energy
• L-cysteine improves recovery of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms from blood
• Tris is a buffer
• Magnesium and iron salts improve the growth of aerobes and anaerobes
• NAD and hemin help in growth of certain fastidious organism that include H

• Polysorbate 80 is the nutritional source of essential fatty acids
• Agarose is added to hinder diffusion of oxygen
