- CDX-2 is a transcription factor that plays an important role during embryonic development, where it determines intestinal identity in the presumptive gut endoderm
- CDX-2 is also required for maintenance of intestinal identity in the intestinal epithelium throughout adulthood
- Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK) are reported to modulate CDX2 transcriptional activity and half-life via phosphorylation
- Reduction of CDX2 expression facilitates tumor progression in murine models of colorectal cancer (CRC) and decreased CDX2 expression level in CRC correlates with poor prognosis in human.
