- General description: Chemical structure: peptide
- Application: Colistin sulfate is used to permeabilize bacterial cell membranes and to study mannose-resistant haemagglutination and antibiotic resistance in certain organisms such as A. baumannii [1]. It has been used to study hephrotoxicity in the rat kidney [2], and MICs, time-kill kinetics, and postantibiotic effect (PAE) against Pseudomonas aeruginosa [3].
- Biochem/physiol Actions: Mode of Action: Binds to lipids on the cell cytoplasmic membrane of Gram-negative bacteria and disrupts the cell wall integrity.Antimicrobial spectrum: Gram-negative bacteria.
- Analysis Note: Freely soluble in water, practically insoluble in acetone and in ethanol (96%)
- Other Notes: Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place.
