- STING is an adaptor protein activated by cytosolic dsDNA or cyclic dinucleotides and plays a critical role in initiating innate responses to infection by various pathogens, including Herpes simplex virus (HSV)
- Once activated, STING translocates to the endoplasmic reticulum and activates the TBK1/IRF3 pathway that in turn mediates the upregulation of interferon (IFN) β
