- It is phosphorylated following growth factor or integrin-mediated cell adhesion stimulation
- FAK is localized to focal adhesions through its C-terminal focal adhesion targeting (FAT) domain that acts by binding to paxillin and talin that are associated with the cytoplasmic tails of integrins
- Phosphorylation of FAK at Tyr 861 by Src promotes this interaction between FAK and integrins.
